First pattern I've ever designed

Cabled Baby or Toddler Scarf.

Materials: 1 X 50 gram ball Aran weight wool/yarn, 1 pair 5 mm straight needles, 1 cable needle.

You start and end with 5 rows of moss stitch... the cabled bit is bordered with 3 moss stitches, and there is a button hole to help keep the scarf attached to wee necks.
Two stitches are slipped on the right side of the work and perled on the wrong side of the work creating a stretched out stitch.

I have knit this in DK on 4 mm needles as well as the aran weight. You could add a couple of moss stitches to both sides of the cable or do a wider cable if you are using DK.

Here is the pattern... it is my first time writing up a pattern, so please forgive and let me know if there are any mistakes.

Cast on 21 stitches.

Moss stitch 5 rows ie. every row kl, (p1, k1) repeat to end

Next row: k1, p1, k1, p 2, yarn back, slip 1p, yfwd, p1 k2, k2tog, k3, p1, yback, slip 1p, yfwd, p 2, k1, p1, k1 (20 stitches)

Next row and all even rows (ie rows 2, 4 and 6): k1,p1,k3, p1, k1, p6, k1, p1, k3, p1, k1

Row 1 and all odd rows except row 3 (ie rows 1 and 5): k1, p1, k1, p2, yarn back, slip 1p, yfwd, p1, k6, p1, yback, slip 1p, yfwd, p 2, k1, p1, k1

Row 2,4,6 follow even row above

Row 3: k1, p1, k1, p2, yarn back, slip 1p, yfwd, p1, cable 3 forward, p1, yback, slip 1p, yfwd, p 2, k1, p1, k1

Repeat rows 1-6 until scarf is approx 50 cm long ending on Row 3 (keeps the cable nice and tight looking at the button hole.)

Make button hole
Next row k1, p1, k2, cast off 12 stitches k1, p1, k1 (you should have 4 stitches on either end on the button hole)
Next row: k1, p1, k1, p1, cast on 12 stitches, p1, k1, p2, k1

Starting at row 2 continue until scarf measures approx 60 cms ending on row 3

Next row: increase 1 stitch in the middle (21 stitches)

Moss stitch 5 rows and cast off and weave in ends.
